Cuyahoga County Planning Commission Services
The Cuyahoga County Planning Commission (CPC) has been serving as a planning and decision-making resource for the public sector of Cuyahoga County. Agency staff provides services to the County, municipalities, regional agencies and not-for-profit corporations.
Community and Regional Planning
Community planners provide planning and zoning assistance to communities on a wide
variety of issues. These services include: community master plans, land use plans,
zoning code review, rezoning analysis, community development, environmental impact
studies, infrastructure analysis, capital planning, recreation planning, housing,
commercial redevelopment, urban beautification, development impact review, and
population and demographic analysis. Community Planners have also developed a
slide presentation which promotes a better understanding of planning and zoning
issues. From a regional perspective, the CPC has been involved in numerous issues
which transcend community boundaries, including a comprehensive analysis of the
Cuyahoga Valley, regional retail patterns, participation in developing strategies
to attract firms specializing in emerging technology, and greenspace studies.
Environmental Planning
The CPC has played an active role in addressing brownfields redevelopment on a regional
basis by developing internet applications for Brownfield databases and working with the
Department of development to establish the Brownfields Redevelopment Fund. CPC has also
been involved in many environmental initiatives, including farmland preservation, open
space planning, coastal zone management, environmental justice, bikeway planning and
watershed assessment.
Solid Waste Planning
Cuyahoga County was the first solid waste management district established in Ohio
following the enactment of House Bill 592. Upon the request of the
Board of Cuyahoga County Commissioners
and the CPC members, the
Ohio EPA designated the CPC to prepare the
Cuyahoga County Solid Waste Plan. CPC will continue to assist the
Solid Waste District by providing technical
assistance on waste planning issues.
Transportation/Infrastructure
The CPC is taking a leadership role in confronting the impacts of Northeast Ohio's
changing development patterns. In the face of the continuing outward migration of
population, jobs and tax base, CPC is helping to formulate transportation policies
which facilitate the welfare-to-work initiatives and promote wise investment in
transportation improvements. The CPC also provides local coordination of the State
Issue 2 Public Works Program.
Geographic Information Systems
The CPC has continued to update and develop new applications for its computerized
mapping system. The system serves as a value resource in visually portraying complex
data bases as well as an important analytical tool for resolving specific mapping
issues.
Information Management
Over its history of more than 60 years, the CPC has accumulated a large library of planning
information and data. These include land use and zoning data, vacant land inventories,
demographic and U.S. Census information, and a variety of others.
