MIGRATION PATTERNS

The migration among Northeast Ohio counties is illustrated in Map 2-3. In the six year period between 1990 and 1996, 101,110 people moved from Cuyahoga County to the surrounding counties, while 60,810 moved from those counties to Cuyahoga County. Thus, in that six-year period, the central county experienced a net loss of 40,322 residents to adjacent counties. Medina County has experienced a net population gain of 10,907 from the six counties which surround it. However, as Medina gains population from the counties to the north it has begun to lose more population than it is gaining to counties to the south such as Ashland and Wayne. (Map 2-4).
