EMPLOYMENT
Between 1979 and 1990, there was net increase of 28,899 in the total number of jobs in the NOACA region. The
largest gain in employment was in Lake County with 13,609 jobs gained, while Lorain suffered the second highest
loss in the State of 4,504 jobs. (Table 2-1)

An analysis of employment trends for the five county area from 1990 to the first quarter of 1997, shows significant
increases in employment occuring in all of the outlying counties while Cuyahoga County, due to major losses in
manufacturing jobs, had an employment increase of only 1.6%. Graph 2-2 illustrates this trend.

A more detailed look at the employment sector trends for Cuyahoga and Medina Counties shows that from 1990 to
1994, Medina County employment increased considerably in every category except for Transportation and Utilities,
for an overall growth of 20.2%, to a total of 36,125 employees. In contrast, every employment sector in Cuyahoga
County decreased from 1990 to 1994, for an overall decrease of 0.8%, to a total of 658,724 employees (Graph
2-3).
