Northeast Ohio Veterans Home Feasibility Study

At the request of the Cuyahoga County Veterans Service Commission, the Cuyahoga County Planning Commission conducted a study to examine the feasibility of developing a new State Veterans Home in Northeast Ohio, in proximity to the largest concentration of veterans residing in any of the state's four quadrants. The study included an analysis of demographic and healthcare trends for the general population and veterans; a review of the process for establishing a new State Veterans Home, along with the design and operational characteristics of existing State Veterans Homes in Ohio and newly constructed facilities nationwide; a survey of Northeast Ohio veterans concerning attitudes, preferences, and needs regarding healthcare services; and a discussion of potential location factors for a Northeast Ohio State Veterans Home, including a drive time analysis, proximity to Veterans Administration medical facilities, access to public transportation, and workforce availability.
